Photoshop

Adobe Photoshop is a program designed to alter photos and images. The program can also be used to create images and logos. Photoshop consists of tools that can be used to remove certain parts of images or photos and tools that can be used to add or alter the images.

The effects that can be utilised in Photoshop make it a versatile program, but some of the names of the effects can make it hard to understand what exactly the effect does to the image. The program is ideal for changing photos in a way that improves it, like changing the colour balance or removing red-eyes and other things that compromises the quality of the photo. If there is something that is not on the photo you can easily add it.

The layers that can be used in Photoshop make it easy to create new images and to alter those images afterwards. Layers simplifies the process by allowing you to view the image with and without the altercations that you have made. Layers can also be used to add colours to the photo that was not there before and can effects can be added and removed using layers. Sometimes, when layers are not named correctly, it is difficult to distinguish between which layer contains which images.

Flaws in photos can be removed using the clone stamp and healing brush tools. This allows you to utilise another part of the photo that is similar to the part with the flaw to paint over the part that you want to remove. Something that bothers me about Photoshop is that while you can add or remove parts of the photo it rarely looks 'real' in that you can see that the image is altered and it is very difficult to make not make the image look altered. To make an image that looks like it is the original takes a lot of time and effort that not everyone is willing to make.

A thing that I really like about Photoshop is that if the problem that you have with a image is small like you want to remove something that is in the middle of an environment that looks the same it is easy to remove. You can also vastly improve a photo by making the colours more vibrant.

You can also add and alter text with Photoshop. Something that I enjoy is adding the text to a path. This means that you can make text that does not run in a straight line but text that can be written in different shapes. You can also add masks to objects or to text. This allows you to make an image on top of another image or pattern and then make the pattern part of the image by locking them together. It is sometimes difficult to create a sufficient mask when the layers are not ordered correctly.

Overall Photoshop is a great program for altering or creating and editing images. Photoshop is easy to use and has a good setup for beginners.

  1. Hey Wilmien :)
Nice Blog, I like the page...but I do think you can make it a bit more creative though...wink_wink..
You seem to know a lot about the program and its uses. I would love to see some of your creations, if that is possible. :)
Do you use the program for personal creations or just for work related stuff?
I think anyone can use Photoshop, since it has became more user-friendly, dont you think? Do you know of any upgrades there will be in the new CS.6, concerning Photoshop?
Do you think there are any other programs Photoshop has to compete with for the best program for photo editing?

  2. Hey Wilmien, well done on your blog! It looks really cool, your post was very professional and very easy to read and understand. Photoshop really is a great programme, definitely my favourite out of all the others.

I was just thinking how no one ever has anything bad to say about Photoshop, it is truly an awesome package. I love to just play around with different effects, especially blending modes. Oooooh, blending modes . Once you are focused on a design it is so hard to tear yourself away, there is no time in Photoshop
I am looking forward to reading more about Photoshop from you in the near future.

  3. I love using Photoshop, but after reading your blog, I want to start making another design. Once you get used to the program, it becomes very easy to use and I would say that the designs on photoshop is only limited to the users' creativeness. If you take creativeness out of the equation, I would say that the possibilities, when it comes to image designs, are endless.

Is there anything in the Photoshop package that you dislike or would want to be improved?

  4. I agree, Photoshop is a really nice program to use, it is not too difficult to learn, and makes designing very easy to do, but it is extremely difficult to master and to understand how all of the tools, layers, blending modes and other things fit in with each other. I think one can learn to photoshop in a month, but it will take a few years to become good with it, having said that, this blog has made me want to try and become good with it, because the possibilities are endless.

  5. Hey hey Wilmien

I enjoyed reading your blog about Adobe Photoshop. I really think Photoshop is amazing topic to tackle. It’s the best program for Design to use in my opinion I wouldn't recommend any other program. If you need something done Photoshop can do the job ... 90% of the time :).
From experience in Photoshop I think doing Picture retouching is the best to do because of the stamp tool you mention and etc.

Really impressed with you blog and hope to see future blogs on this profile!

  6. I enjoyed reading about how some of the tools and effects can help in PhotoShop. I must say my favourite part was about the layers: name them! It was so funny for me because I’m so used to naming my layers and making use of many different layers in groups. This became like second nature to me, similar to knowing a lot of shortcuts. There was a point in my life when I realized I use PhotoShop a lot when I started explaining everything through shortcuts. For example: Ctrl + M =Curves and not to even mention what silly and amazing things the clone tool can do!

  7. Photo Shop Mmm yes the one program that I love playing around in, photo manipulation is one of the most funnest things to do I mean you could take a lion and put its head on to a cat or something, but yes what I am trying to say is that with photo shop you basically just need an idea good quality images effort and perfection then you would become the best Photoshop designer in the world.
But yes your blog tells me a lot about photoshop and I would get in to in after I have read your blog but yes I am a designing freek so yea I am already hooked to that but Yes! good blog Wilmien you really hit the nail on its head.

  8. Hey Wilmien, smaak your blog, looks professional and just looks great

You given a nice and clear explanation of what Photoshop’s all about and also great clear explanations of the tools and what you can do. I must say though, I do not really like Photoshop that much and never really have but with that said I should also probably say that it is a great program to use because you can actually almost design anything you can think of and if there’s something specific you can not really do then there’s always a way around that so yeah Photoshop really is a great program but I just don’t like it that much.
